FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

(Please note all these questions and answers are based on the driving regulations and experiences in Manitoba)

 

Q. What is the minimum age to be able to obtain a Learner's Permit?

A.  In Manitoba you have to be at least 15 1/2 yrs of age to be able 

      to write the test.

 

Q.  How many lessons does a person need to be able to learn to drive?

 A.  Every individual is different.  On the average eight hours is

     sufficient to learn the basics to appear for your driving test.

 

Q.  How much does it cost to take a lesson?

A.   We charge $55/hr or $65.00 for 1 1/2hr lessonsFor your convenience

       we also have a 5 lesson package for $300.00*

 

Q.  I'm 15 1/2. Can I take private lessons?

A.  No.  You must enroll in the High School Drivers Ed. program to

      take lessons.  Get in touch with your school office.

 

Q.  I have taken Drivers Ed.  already.  Can I take some private lessons

       before I go for my driving test?

A.  You can take some brush up lessons before going for the test.  You

       can do this on the same day as the test or anytime before that.

 

Q.  Where can I go for my written test?

A.   If you are enrolled in the Drivers Ed program then you can write

       the test in the classroom.  Otherwise, you can go to one of the seven

       MPI Service Centers in Winnipeg. 

 

Q.  How long after I pass my written test can I go for my driving test?

A.  If you have never held a license before then you must wait 9 months

      before you can do your driving test.

 

Q.  I have a valid license from my native country.  Do I need to wait

      9 months to go for my driving test?

A.  No.  If you hold a license from any other jurisdiction, you may 

      apply for a permanent license.

 

Q.  I have a Learner's license from Ontario.  Do I have to do the

       written test again in Manitoba?

A.  Manitoba does not recognize Learner's license from other provinces

 

Q.  How much does it cost to do the tests in Manitoba?

A.  Written test costs $10.00 and the road test for Class 5 is $30.00.

       Road test for Class 4 is $35.00.

 

*packages are prepaid on the first lesson.  Each lesson is

1 1/2hr long.
